KGCS Professional Development 2011-2012

All professional staff must participate in a minimum of 10 hours of professional development (PD) during the 2011-2012 school year.   

  1. Teachers should keep the original copy of proof in a safe place like a PD notebook.
  2. Proof includes items such as a certificate, a participants list, or an attendance list.
  3. One point will be awarded for each hour of training.
  4. Points may be earned after July 1, 2011 and during the 2011-2012 school year.
  5. Proof of professional development should be kept in a teacher’s file in his/her school’s office.
  6. Principals will incorporate professional development comments into a teacher’s annual evaluation.
  7. Teachers should include professional development goals into their annual professional objectives written at the beginning of each school year.
  8. The minimum requirement does not limit the authority of the principal to require additional training to meet individual school needs.

Summer professional development training
Professional development completed during a professional development conference
Division technology classes
Certain staff development in-services approved by the principal
Coursework
Workshops

2011-2012 Technology Professional Development: 
 
Our theme this year will continue to be “Changing the Way You “C” Technology” Technology Integration that engages students with: Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, Challenging 21st Century learners, and Constructing real world examples.
 
Summary of technology classes offered during 2011-2012 school year:
  • Summer Technology Institute
  • One hour technology classes

Summer Technology Institute
The Summer Technology Institute will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays in August. The classes will run from 8am to 11am and 12pm to 3pm. Our classes are designed to focus on technology integration for specific curriculums and the use of technology tools for problem based learning.  Attendees will earn an hour of professional development credit for each hour of the class.

One Hour Technology Classes
One hour after school sessions will be offered at each building. These classes are designed to focus on the application of technology tools which are specific to each building in KGCS. These classes will be offered September, October, November, January, February and March.

Pre-Approved Technology Classes:
 
* Submit course approval form to Supervisor of Technology PRIOR to taking the class http://www.kgcs.k12.va.us/forms/PDCForm.doc
* Submit course transcript/certificate of attendance to the Supervisor of Technology AFTER taking the class
 
 
Rappahannock Community College is an established general professional development provider.  If you are interested in seeing upcoming courses, click here
 
The general hours can be earned by attending courses at Rappahannock Community College, building level sessions, and /or by attending an outside course. Staff will be able to attend these sessions during the summer during the 2011 - 2012 school year. An outside course needs to be approved prior to registration by Mr. William Wishard and must be successfully completed to satisfy these required hours.
