"Celebrating 33 Years of Academic Excellence!"

Principal Seidah Ashshaheed hosted the King George Middle School Closing Ceremony on June 16, 2009.  Pictured above left are the items to be placed in a time capsule. The audience was treated to a live performance of generational music, a video featuring several local KGMS graduates and a  poem read by veteran teacher Urzetta Lewis.  KGMS is relocating to 8246 Dahlgren Road (the old high school) beginning in the 2009-10 school year.

   

KGMS Band Director Cathy Fisher leads the band during their rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. Joining KGMS band members were high school age band students, KGMS teachers and parents. 

 

Chesapeake Bay Governor's School newest members say hello as the seniors say good bye in a recent celebration of their accomplishments.  Seniors presented their projects as well as conducting a Q & A session with the rising sophomores.  Teachers and staff from CBGS as well as Dr. Brown and other central office staff joined in the celebration.

 

Dr. Brown (upper left) was a recent guest speaker for the KGMS 8th Grade leadership group.  Local Masonic Lodge members Mr. Stanley Allen (upper right) and Mr. Darryl Upson (center below) have also spent time with the 8th grade leadership group sharing their life experiences.  Gifted Coordinator AJ Rogers serves as the mentor for these 8th graders.

 

Dr. Brown and other Central Office staff treat the division secretaries to a special luncheon in honor of Administrative Professionals Day!

Spring has spring at the School Board Office!  Dr. Brown greets a special visitor while Eggbert treats the Pre-K students during their Spring Celebration.

April 8th Board Meeting Highlights

Potomac Elementary sixth graders demonstrate what they have learned using the new "World Music Drumming" curriculum.  Music teacher Giva Connor worked with the PTA in getting the drums purchased for the new program. 

March 25th Board Meeting Highlights

King George Elementary 6th graders give the board a taste of the KGES Today Show, a live morning television show that provides students and staff with daily announcements and other information including a special appearance by the principal.

King George Middle School 8th grader Kendall Powell shared her experience as a Virginia House of Delegates Page with the school board.  She was one of 38 teens in Virginia selected for the program.  Pages assist the members of the House of Delegates, the House Clerk’s staff, and other legislative staff in the daily duties required for the successful operation of the House of Delegates during the session.

 

 

 

 

 

Sealston Elementary students Heidi Colwell, Elena DelaRosa, Graham Major, and Jonah Bryant (left to right) spoke to board members about the four qualities of National Elementary Honor Society students.  These students were in the group of Sealston students who were recently inducted into the NEHS.

February 11th Board Meeting Highlights

 

Potomac Elementary sixth grade math teacher Sandra Duff explains a recent math field trip to the board.  Accelerated math students Kenley Green, Hayley Gummer, Zephyr Headley, Nathan Kendrick and Max Wahlquist showed how they graphed and analyzed their real world data collected on the bowling field trip.

 

 

 

 

 

King George High School Senior Ray Gamache (left) shares his plan for the new cross country course.  He proposed creating the new course as his Eagle Scout Project.  Band Director Aaron Noë treated the board to a "fashion show" of the new band uniforms with sophomore Patrick Smith doing the modeling.

Dedication of the new KGHS

  

Dr. Brown welcomes students, parents, teachers and community members to the Dedication Ceremony of the new King George High School.  The ceremony was held on Thursday, January 29, 2009 in the auditorium of the new building.  Guests of honor included past and present members of the School Board and Board of Supervisors, State Senator Richard H. Stuart and U. S. House of Representatives Congressman Rob Wittman as well as individuals from Moseley Architects, Howard Shockey and Sons, and URS Construction Management. 

 

Those in attendance were treated to musical selections provided by the high school chorus and wind ensemble. SCA President Molly Dibble and Senior Class Secretary Clare Shippee (pictured above) both gave remarks.

The winner of the TAG art Seasons Greeting Card contest is Amy Neel, a fifth grader at KGES.  In December she was honored at a lunch with Dr. Brown and her art teacher, Mrs. Willis.  Amy's art work has been used as the King George County Schools' greeting card for this year.

King George High School SCA officers lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provided opening remarks to the Board.  Those present were President Molly Dibble, Vice Presidents Courtney Hartnett and Lydia Gray, Secretary Lindsey Adams and Treasurer Katie Taylor.
