Advanced Academic Opportunities: King George County Schools provides special services to students in grades K-12 identified as gifted and/or talented.

Identified gifted K-2 students meet weekly with gifted resource teachers’ at all three elementary schools.  Gifted students in grades three, four, five and six attend the Gifted Center, located at King George Elementary School, where they are grouped in clusters in the regular classroom and receive direct instruction in the areas of language and mathematics from a gifted specialist. Gifted art classes are offered at all three elementary schools.

In the middle school, students who excel in mathematics have an opportunity to participate in advanced mathematics classes and earn credit in Algebra I and Geometry prior to entering high school. There is, also, an after-school program for gifted math students. Identified language arts students are grouped for English instruction with a  gifted specialist. Additionally, students identified as talented in art have an opportunity to participate in a gifted art class after school.

At the high school level, students have an opportunity to take advanced classes to accelerate and enrich the regular curriculum. Additionally, high school students in grades nine through twelve may enroll in The Commonwealth Governor’s School and students in grades ten through twelve may enroll in the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School.
